Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Highly valued and respected is the work carried out by Cuban doctors in Gambia, which for almost 30 years has received the solidarity aid that Cuba provides in health matters to numerous countries around the world and which has been recognized by governments, people and international organizations.<\/b><\/p>\n

In the middle of this month, the governments of the two nations renewed the Collaboration Agreement in the field of health, which was described as a sign of positive bilateral relations.<\/p>\n

As part of this collaboration and with the commitment to help a brother people, in recent days a new group of Cuban professionals arrived in the African nation, a fact highlighted by the local press.<\/p>\n

In different hospitals in the Gambian territory, health workers will provide assistance to the population, who join the Cuban Medical Brigade present in that small West African state, which obtained its independence from the United Kingdom in 1965.<\/p>\n

Throughout all these years, countless lives have been saved thanks to the performance of Cubans, who help raise health rates and the well-being of the residents.<\/p>\n

To understand the impact of Cuban medical aid in Gambia, let’s take the year 2019 as an example, in which more than 700 THOUSAND consultations were carried out, 17 THOUSAND more than in the previous twelve months.<\/p>\n

The support of the doctors of the Greater Antilles in the fight against COVID 19 was essential. Their work, together with their Gambian colleagues, allowed the recovery of numerous infected people and reduced the incidence of the disease caused by the new coronavirus.<\/p>\n

The effective collaboration in this branch also makes it possible to train young doctors in Gambian territory, who receive the same curriculum taught at the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana, founded in November 1999 at the initiative of the historical leader of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro.<\/p>\n

Dedication, commitment and love for Gambia, this is how the authorities and people of the African nation describe the daily work of Cuban doctors for whom the greatest satisfaction is helping those in need and saving lives.<\/p>\n
