The Gambia Moral Congress lawsuit against the Independent Electoral Commission will be heard this Friday, according to GMC leader Mai Ahmad Fatty.<\/p>\n

\u201cGMC\u2019s case against the IEC is scheduled for Friday the 19th November 2021, at the High Court in Banjul.<\/p>\n

The party looks forward to the opportunity to present its case vigorously. It is also an opportunity to consolidate Gambian democracy, establish the right to participate in public affairs at the highest level, without undue restrictions or asphyxiating technicalities, and strengthen the rule of law,\u201d Fatty announced.<\/p>\n

Fatty is the third applicant and presidential aspirant to have taken the IEC to court over their disqualification to run in the December poll. His nomination was rejected after IEC claimed it submitted less than 200 required voters to support his nomination in Banjul.<\/p>\n

Resignation<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the GMC national executive has issued a statement denying reports that its members are resigning from the party.<\/p>\n

In the statement shared with The Standard, the party said: \u201cFollowing the recent interview by Fatou Faal with King FM in which she alleged the mass resignation of executive members, GMC National Executive wishes to inform the general public, GMC supporters and sympathizes that the entire Executive remains united and solidly behind our leader.<\/p>\n

\u201cNone of the Executive members resigned contrary to the rumours spread by Fatou Faal. The misinformation campaign being propagated by Ms. Faal and her associates, is a false, intentionally malicious and aimed at scandalising GMC, its National Executive under the illustrious leadership of Hon. Mai Ahmad Fatty,\u201d GMC said.<\/p>\n

The party added: \u201cMs. Faal and her sponsors chose such a sensitive political and challenging moment to execute their betrayal of the highest order so as to weaken the Party. They have failed in their evil intentions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The party\u2019s national executive urges party supporters, sympathisers and the general public to disregard and ignore the \u201cmalicious and fabricated\u201d utterances of Ms. Fatou Faal.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe mandate of the National Executive at this time is to seek to enforce the entrenched constitutional right of our Party\u2019s candidate to contest. This is the principal focus of the Party at this time, in the pursuit of which a case has been filed against the IEC at the Banjul High Court. That case will be heard on the 19th November 2021. The Party will focus exclusively on this legal matter until final determination of our rights.<\/p>\n

\u201cLastly, Ms Fatou Faal is hereby expelled from GMC with immediate effect for malicious activities inimical to the general interests of GMC and the welfare of its supporters. Finally, we thank the general membership for giving support to the party during the most difficult times.\u201d<\/p>\n
