Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>NPP PREDICTS CLEAN SWEEP OF ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS The deputy spokesman of the National People\u2019s Party, Seedy Njie, has told The Standard that the NPP\u2019s results in the April 2022 National Assembly elections will eclipse its performance in the just-ended presidential election.<\/p>\n

Njie, regarded as one of the key architects of Barrow\u2019s election victory, said most of the sitting National Assembly Members from opposition parties have been \u201cshaken to the core\u201d by the results.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NPP won in almost all constituencies and this trend will continue in the assembly elections which mean a clean sweep of the National Assembly seats in April,\u201d Njie gushed. He said Barrow will need \u201ca comfortable majority\u201d in parliament \u201cto execute his progressive legislative and development agenda\u201d.<\/p>\n

Asked about allegations that the NPP stole the election by registering non-Gambians en masse, Mr Njie said: \u201cThat is a cheap excuse from the opposition. This result is a reflection of the appreciation of President Barrow by the Gambian people, which the opposition woefully failed to notice or even admit. And in any case, they had the opportunity to make objections to the voters list but none of them queried even a single entry,\u201d Njie said.<\/p>\n

Asked how the next government will be shaped with the myriad political parties and interests that have invested in the Barrow victory, Njie responded: \u201cBarrow has a good track record of accommodating different political ideas and politicians. He has been working with the majority of the Coalition 2016 members peacefully for years. In fact he has already said everyone is welcome to work with him so he will have no problem accommodating anyone in the interest of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n
