Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Halifa rules out government appointment Amid widespread suggestions by Gambians on social media that Halifa Sallah, the secretary-general of the People\u2019s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism PDOIS could be a very good choice for minister or Speaker of the national assembly in the coming Barrow administration, Mr Sallah has come out to categorically ruled out any such thing.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Teranga FM\u2019s Mborr MI Show, yesterday evening, Mr Sallah said he has never aspired nor requested to have any such type of appointment from President Barrow even in 2016 when he actively worked with Barrow to bing about the change of government.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think having worked with Barrow and with the maximum respect we have for each we will not ever enter into those issues. There cannot be two presidents and two different ways of governance in a country at any giving time\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

The veteran politician said since at the age of 16, he had tasked himself to sacrifice his life to be educated to uplift the lives of the black people. \u201cAnd 50 years on today, I will not joke with that and this is why I don\u2019t want anything that will tarnish my image,\u201d he said. Asked what\u2019s next for him, the Serekunda lawmaker said he will want to focus on empowering the African people in all aspect just like the role the likes of former Nigerian President Obasanjo is playing in supporting the continent.<\/p>\n
