Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>JAMMEH’S GUARDS DUE BACK SOON<\/p>\n

The Standard has been reliably informed that members of former president Yayha Jammeh\u2019s guards, who went with him into exile in Equatorial Guinea five years ago, are due to return to The Gambia in the next few days.<\/p>\n

The guards were recently seen in a video celebrating and singing songs about President Adama Barrow\u2019s victory in the December 4 election, a public confirmation that they are not in agreement with Jammeh over his refusal to endorse his party\u2019s backing of Barrow. An APRC source told The Standard at the time that plans are afoot to repatriate the guards and their dependents from Equatorial Guinea as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

Last night, a credible source told The Standard that the first batch of the guards was due back on Sunday, yesterday but a little hitch delayed them but they are certainly on their way back to The Gambia. \u201dThey could arrive anytime from now. In fact, it could even be today or tomorrow,\u201d our source emphasized. Asked how many guards are due back, our source said they could number about ten, some with their families.<\/p>\n
