Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>3 dead in Kotu car crash<\/p>\n

Police have confirmed that at least three people have died, two on the spot, when a speeding private car driver rammed his car into a taxi on the Kotu segment of the Bertil Harding Highway. The last to die was a Sierra Leonean woman who died in hospital of severe injuries. Police also said reports of more fatalities are being investigated.<\/p>\n

The police could not immediately establish the number of passengers in the vehicles, or how many men and women were involved. \u201cThe driver of the private vehicle left his lane and was overtaking when it rammed into the taxi. Two people died on the spot, later another person died at the hospital. Currently, there are others still recovering at hospital,\u201d spokesman ASP Lamin Njie said.<\/p>\n

He said investigations into the matter will continue even though preliminary reports indicated speeding as the most likely cause. \u201cAppropriate actions will be taken as soon as the investigations are completed,\u201d he assured.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, one of the victims has been identified as Aruna Njie, 42, from Bakau. His relative, Badou Faye, told The Standard Mr Njie was \u201ca nice man who respected everyone, including even children\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe never associated himself with any nonsense. We will miss him,\u201d an emotional Mr Faye said.<\/p>\n
