Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>By Adama Makasuba Honourable Dawda Jallow, Minister of Justice and Attorney General has said the government will come up with a whitepaper on the TRRC findings report in five months, adding that the report is yet to be discussed in cabinet.<\/p>\n

The report has name dozens of both serving and served officials including former President Yahya Jammeh who is criminally liable for human rights violations including killing, torture and rape.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters, he said: \u201cBy the end of the six month, five months to be specific because one month is already gone, we will come up with a whitepaper and this whitepaper is the one that will inform the public what is [the] position of government.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will inform the public in due course regarding that, we are yet to discuss the report in cabinet, we will be looking into that and the public will be duly informed. So, we will be looking into that as to what is the position of the government on temporal measures while we wait for the actual whitepaper which is due in five-month time,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

AG Jallow also assured the commitment of the Barrow administration in implementing the report to ensure justice is served to the victims. \u201cThere are lots of recommendations on issues of institutional reform [and] other forms. Yes, there is lot more can be done other than monetary compensation, in fact there are some people that would not take monetary compensation, they would want to see other things that are satisfying to them, so we are very mindful of that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He reaffirmed that the government is yet to take any position on the report pending the whitepaper as he again promised justice for victims. Meanwhile, Gambians have taken on social media to call on the government to fully implement the report in order to ensure justice is served for the victims.<\/p>\n
