Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The GRA was tasked to collect D12. 8 billion in 2021, and according to Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe, the tax authority will achieve its target by 31 December 2021. He hinted that 95% of the 2021 revenue target has been met and by 31 December, GRA would confirm how much has been collected in total.<\/p>\n

CG Darboe said the two major reforms that they wanted to implement in 2022 are: moving from ASYCUDA ++ to ASYCUDA World and from Gam tax net to ITAS tax net. \u201cThese two systems are our biggest reform target of the coming year,\u201d Mr. Darboe said.<\/p>\n

For his part, Essa Jallow, the deputy commissioner general and head of Domestic Tax, GRA, expressed optimism that GRA would meet the 2021 annual target, adding many other years had preceded 2021 but that has been the trend, so even in instances where they find themselves in that kind of situation there will be a lot of evidence available to explain the previous performance that GRA has registered.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou realise that you don\u2019t have to look at this revenue collection in isolation, we operate within an economy and this economy is also affected by things that are happening outside this country, and all these have an impact on the kind of work that we do,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are creating room for police and other stakeholders like the Ministry of Finance, GIEPA, GPA and others, where the information we share with them will be available there and they would be having access to them easily without going to GRA.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the total amount collected in 2021 will be announced later. The board chairperson of the GRA, Lucy Fye Jagne, articulated her impression of GRA performance over the years, describing it as outstanding.<\/p>\n

She said it was all due to the hardwork and leadership they have at the management level. She commended the management of GRA and staff for their excellent commitment and hardwork in making sure GRA collects the much needed tax for government and increasing revenue performance over the years.<\/p>\n
