Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>A resident of Brikama,<\/b> Nfally Saidy, appeared before the<\/b> Brikama Magistrates\u2019 Court on Tuesday, 8th July 2025, on a charge of obtaining money by false pretense, in violation of Section 228 of the Criminal Code, Cap 10:01 Volume 3, Revised Laws of The Gambia 2009.<\/b><\/p>\n

The accused, who was not legally represented, appeared before Magistrate Dem, <\/b>while Sergeant 4812 J. Preirra<\/b> entered an appearance for the prosecution on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the charge sheet read before the court, Saidy is alleged to have, in June 2024, <\/b>fraudulently obtained a total of D121,000.00<\/b> from one Ousman Gassama<\/b>, a resident of Kitty Village<\/b>, under the false pretense of securing a travel visa to Portugal.<\/b> The prosecution contends that Saidy made this representation knowing it to be untrue, and with the deliberate intent to defraud the plaintiff.<\/p>\n

The accused pleaded not guilty<\/b> to the charge.<\/p>\n

No objections were raised by the prosecution regarding bail. However, Sergeant Preirra requested an adjournment to enable the state to prepare its witnesses, indicating that the prosecution intends to call its first witness at the next hearing.<\/p>\n

In granting the application, Magistrate Dem imposed bail conditions, setting bail at D300,000. <\/b>The accused is required to provide two Gambian sureties<\/b>, each of whom must present valid identification either a national identity card<\/b> or passport<\/b> to satisfy the court.<\/p>\n

The matter was subsequently adjourned to 15th July 2025<\/b> for the commencement of the trial and hearing of the prosecution\u2019s first witness.<\/p>\n
