{"id":81854,"date":"2025-07-11T19:00:52","date_gmt":"2025-07-11T19:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/uncategorized\/sering-modou-njie-appointed-foreign-minister"},"modified":"2025-07-11T19:37:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-11T19:37:10","slug":"sering-modou-njie-appointed-foreign-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/all-news\/sering-modou-njie-appointed-foreign-minister","title":{"rendered":"Sering Modou Njie Appointed Foreign Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Gambia. <\/strong><\/span><b>President Adama Barrow on Wednesday reassigned Sering Modou Njie, Minister for Defence as the new Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>It came barely five days after President Barrow announced his acceptance of the resignation of Dr Mamadou Tangara who had been the country\u2019s chief diplomat for over seven years.<\/p>\n<p>Tangara has taken up an international role under the African Union.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Njie had a short stint as ambassador to Turkey before his appointment as defence minister in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Njie, a career soldier, is native of Medina Sering Mass, who holds a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Political Science and a Master\u2019s Degree in International Relations. He began his military career in 1998 as the Public Relations Officer of the Gambia Armed Forces.
