Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>President Adama Barrow on Wednesday, 31st July, presided over the swearing-in of four newly appointed public officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, as well as the new leadership of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and a member of the Reparation Commission.<\/b><\/p>\n

The ceremony, held at the State House in Banjul, saw the officials take the oaths of office, allegiance, and secrecy.<\/p>\n

In his address, President Barrow urged the appointees to serve with diligence, integrity, and a deep sense of national duty, emphasizing that public office is a trust that must be upheld.<\/p>\n

He reminded them that public institutions reflect the nation\u2019s image, and that through their work, The Gambia can continue to present itself as a model of good governance, adherence to the rule of law, and the maintenance of peace and stability.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe public figures sworn in today, like every one of us, have the enormous task of initiating change, progress, and productivity, building on best practices, avoiding and managing lapses, and improving on shortcomings to better serve the people and measure up to expectations,\u201d the president stated.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the country\u2019s Transitional Justice Programme, the president noted that it has reached a critical stage with the establishment of the Reparation Commission. He reaffirmed his government\u2019s commitment, through the Ministry of Justice and its partners, to ensure that victims of the former regime receive justice as part of national healing and reconciliation efforts.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of the sworn-in officials, Sering Modou Njie, the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed gratitude to President Barrow for the trust placed in them. He pledged that they would carry out their responsibilities with commitment and dedication to the nation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose are the benchmarks that each one of us, when we are executing our different functions and mandates, should always put at the back of our minds that the Gambian people are watching and we should serve what has already been given to us,\u201d Minister Njie said.<\/p>\n
