Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Republic of The Gambia and the Kingdom of Morocco have reaffirmed their long-standing diplomatic and development partnership during a ceremony marking the 26th anniversary of the enthronement of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.<\/b><\/p>\n

Held on Wednesday evening at Coco Ocean Hotel, the event brought together top government officials, diplomats, religious leaders, and invited guests. The occasion was hosted by the Charge\u0301 d\u2019Affaires of the Kingdom of Morocco in The Gambia, Mr. Ahmed Belhadj.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, The Gambia\u2019s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sering Modou Njie, delivered a message on behalf of President Adama Barrow, congratulating King Mohammed VI, the Moroccan government, and the people on the anniversary.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis celebration not only marks His Majesty\u2019s reign but also highlights Morocco\u2019s enduring journey of peace, progress, and partnership,\u201d Minister Njie said.<\/p>\n

He praised Morocco\u2019s leadership in promoting South-South cooperation and regional stability under the King\u2019s Royal Initiative for Africa. The Minister also acknowledged The Gambia\u2019s gains from Morocco\u2019s support across various sectors, including agriculture, education, health, and capacity building.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese initiatives have strengthened our institutions and helped shape a more resilient future for our youth and professionals,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

For his part, Mr. Belhadj Charge\u0301 d\u2019Affaires of the Kingdom of Morocco in The Gambia described the Throne Day as a moment to reflect on Morocco\u2019s progress over the past 26 years, citing major national projects and international engagements under King Mohammed VI\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n

\u201cMorocco has achieved strides in economic dynamism, social development, political reform, and climate diplomacy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects such as the Tangier Med Port, Africa\u2019s first high-speed rail, and the planned Dakhla Atlantic Port. He also noted Morocco\u2019s role as co-host of the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, and the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.<\/p>\n

On the Morocco-Gambia relationship, Mr. Belhadj emphasized a growing and strategic partnership, pointing to 36 bilateral agreements signed to date and plans for a Morocco-Gambia Business Forum to deepen trade and investment ties.<\/p>\n

He commended The Gambia for its continued cooperation and support, particularly in regional and international fora.<\/p>\n

Mr. Belhadj also congratulated Hon. Sering Modou Njie on his appointment as Foreign Minister and extended best wishes to his predecessor, Dr. Mamadou Tangara, in his new role as the African Union\u2019s Special Representative for Mali and the Sahel.<\/p>\n

The evening concluded with a dinner reception, where guests were treated to Moroccan cuisine and cultural hospitality.<\/p>\n

The Throne Day celebration underscored the mutual respect and growing collaboration between the two nations as they look ahead to stronger diplomatic, economic, and cultural engagements.<\/p>\n
