{"id":83291,"date":"2025-08-04T16:13:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T16:13:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/uncategorized\/nao-trains-journalists-on-audit-reporting"},"modified":"2025-08-05T14:10:05","modified_gmt":"2025-08-05T14:10:05","slug":"nao-trains-journalists-on-audit-reporting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/all-news\/nao-trains-journalists-on-audit-reporting","title":{"rendered":"NAO Trains Journalists on Audit Reporting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Gambia. <\/strong><\/span><b>The National Audit Office (NAO) has concluded two-day training for journalists from various media outlets in the country.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The training which drew participants from: television, radio, print, community stations, and online platforms, aimed at improving understanding and coverage of audit reporting.<\/p>\n<p>The training, held in Bakadaji Hotel focused on enhancing collaboration between the NAO and the media, with the goal of increasing the impact of audits and raising awareness about the role of stakeholders in promoting accountability.<\/p>\n<p>Auditor General, Momodou Ceesay, addressing participants, said the initiative was part of NAO\u2019s annual stakeholder engagement strategy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) of The Gambia, the National Audit Office has a critical mandate defined by the 1997 Constitution and other legislation,\u201d Ceesay remarked. \u201cIn a democracy, SAIs play a vital role in holding government accountable and enabling legislative oversight of the use and management of public resources.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He referenced Principle 12 of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), which outlined the value and benefits of SAIs in making a difference in citizens\u2019 lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSAIs contributes to society by fostering accountability and transparency in government institutions and programmes. These contributions are most effective when SAIs communicate their work clearly to the public,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Highlighting the media\u2019s role as \u201cthe fourth estate,\u201d Ceesay underscored its importance in informing citizens, raising awareness, and ensuring broader dissemination of audit findings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recognize the media\u2019s essential role and have committed to holding periodic engagements. These interactions have already enhanced our collaboration, although there is still room for growth,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Ceesay encouraged active participation during the training and expressed hope that the session would deepen journalists\u2019 understanding of the NAO\u2019s mandate, audit procedures, and reporting frameworks.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Auditor General, Baba S.
