{"id":83644,"date":"2025-08-08T17:26:28","date_gmt":"2025-08-08T17:26:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/uncategorized\/barrow-hails-police-graduates-and-vows-stronger-support"},"modified":"2025-08-11T16:11:59","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T16:11:59","slug":"barrow-hails-police-graduates-and-vows-stronger-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/all-news\/barrow-hails-police-graduates-and-vows-stronger-support","title":{"rendered":"Barrow Hails Police Graduates and Vows Stronger Support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Gambia. <\/strong><\/span><b>President Adama Barrow has reaffirmed his government\u2019s commitment to strengthening the Gambia Police Force (GPF), pledging greater support and resources to enhance national security and public safety.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Wednesday at the passing out parade of the 2024\u20132025 Police Recruit Intake One in Banjul, the President praised the new officers for completing what he described as a \u201crigorous journey of training, sacrifice, and growth.\u201d He said their graduation reflects the country\u2019s ongoing efforts to expand and modernise its security services in line with population growth and emerging security challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe population growth of a country calls for a corresponding expansion of its security services,\u201d Barrow stated, adding that with the evolving threats brought on by technology and social media, the Gambia needs a police force that is \u201ccapable, responsive, and adequately equipped.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barrow disclosed that nine brand new vehicles were procured in the first half of 2025 to improve police mobility and patrol efforts. He reiterated that his government remains committed to resourcing the police to ensure \u201cproactive policing\u201d and improved community safety.<\/p>\n<p>The President also spoke on the ongoing security sector reform under the 2023\u20132027 Recovery-Focused National Development Plan, noting that the reforms are focused on building a results-oriented public service and a professional, rights-based police force.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou must not regard your service as a mere profession but a calling to uphold the values of our Republic,\u201d he told the recruits, urging them to embrace integrity, discipline, and ethical conduct in their daily duties.<\/p>\n<p>Barrow said the new police training curriculum now incorporates human rights, gender and child protection, and community-oriented policing.
