Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>In a significant diplomatic move, the Hungarian government Sunday 10th August 2025, awarded prestigious scholarships to ten 10) deserving Gambian students to pursue higher education in Hungary.<\/b><\/p>\n

The awards which were made through Hungary\u2019s consulate in The Gambia were granted under the Hungarian \u201cStipendium Hungaricum\u201d Program, the flagship initiative of Hungary\u2019s government to promote international academic exchange.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event held at the Consulate\u2019s main office in Bijilo, Head of the Consular Section, Ricard Majtan, congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to remain dedicated throughout their studies.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe urge you to represent your country well,\u201d Majtan said. \u201cThis initiative is on-going, so we encourage you to pursue your studies with utmost seriousness and be exemplary representatives of the Gambian people.\u201d<\/p>\n

The awardees were selected through a rigorous two-staged process coordinated by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MOHERST).<\/p>\n

Mamadou Alpha Jallow, one of the scholarship recipients, who plans to pursue a master\u2019s degree in applied mathematics, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an outstanding chance to gain knowledge and equip myself to come back and serve my country meaningfully,\u201d Jallow remarked.<\/p>\n

Another beneficiary, Muhammed Barry, who will pursue a PhD in educational sciences, highlighted the need for expertise to improve The Gambia\u2019s education sector. \u201cGiven the current situation of our education system, we need people with broader perspectives and experience to help bring about meaningful improvements,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

The students are expected to depart for Hungary before the end of August, with their studies scheduled to commence in early September under the Stipendium Hungaricum program. They carry the hopes of their families and the nation, as well as the promise of strengthening the academic and cultural ties between Banjul and Budapest.<\/p>\n
