This incident serves as a stark reminder of the deadly consequences of Female Genital Mutilation, which has been illegal in The Gambia since the enactment of the Women (Amendment) Act 2015,\u201d the release stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Government hereby issues this strong warning to all citizens: Female Genital Mutilation remains a serious criminal offense under Gambian law, punishable by imprisonment,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>The government further warned that FGM remains a serious criminal offense under Gambian law, punishable by imprisonment, and promised to enforce the law without exception.
