Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Barrow sends off Scorpions to maiden Afcon<\/p>\n

The Gambia national team, the gallant Scorpions, leave town early this morning for Limbe, Cameroon to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations finals, the first time in history.<\/p>\n

The team of 28 players will play in Group F against Mauritania on January 12, Mali on January 16 and Tunisia on January 20 for a place in the second round.<\/p>\n

Last night, the team was received by President Barrow who handed over the traditional battle flag to the team with words of encouragement and inspiration.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the government has released D90M to fill the funding gap of The Gambia\u2019s Afcon programme, making it possible for the National Coordinating Committee, NCC, to hit its D117M target.<\/p>\n
