Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Government of The Gambia has disclosed that 13 corruption and fraud cases involving senior public officials, police officers, and civil servants are currently at various stages of prosecution.<\/b><\/p>\n

The update came during a press conference convened to address a petition submitted by Gambians Against Looted Assets (GALA), a civil society group demanding accountability in the handling of public resources.<\/p>\n

Finance and Economic Affairs Minister Seedy Keita outlined the cases, which span multiple government departments and agencies, and involve charges ranging from official corruption and economic crimes to fraud, forgery, and breach of trust.<\/p>\n

Below is a summary of the cases:<\/p>\n

State v. Bala Kandeh, Omar Ceesay & Momodou Lamin Keita<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2013 A former Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health and a former Programme Manager of the National Malaria Control Programme are among those charged with corruption and economic crimes. Prosecution has closed its case.<\/p>\n

State v. Amie Sarr & Five Others<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2013 Staff of the Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation face corruption and fraud charges. The state has closed its case, with the defence set to proceed.<\/p>\n

State v. Ousman Bahuma & Four Others<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2013 Immigration Department staff accused of corruption and related offences. Prosecution has called all its witnesses.<\/p>\n

State v. Abba Sanyang & Pa Modou Jobe<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2013 The former Governor of the Central River Region and an accountant face charges of economic crimes and fraud. Prosecution is ongoing.<\/p>\n

State v. Yusupha Cham & Two Others<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2013 Ministry of Justice, Registrar General\u2019s Department staff charged with economic crimes and fraud. Prosecution is ongoing.<\/p>\n

State v. Jacqueline Kanteh & Others<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2013 A Gambia Post Authority staff member and alleged accomplices at a bank are charged with forgery and related offences. Trial continues.<\/p>\n

State v. Ebriam Janko Colley & Others<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2013 A magistrate and two judicial staff face charges of fraud and breach of trust. The case is progressing.<\/p>\n

State v. Bubakar S.M. Jobarteh<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2013 The former Director of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is charged in connection with the diplomatic passport scandal. Prosecution is complete; judgment is pending.<\/p>\n

State v. Mansa Sumari & Ebrima Sanneh<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2013 A protocol officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a State House driver also face charges in the diplomatic passport scandal. Trial is concluded; judgment is awaited.<\/p>\n

State v. Lamin Banda<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2013 A police commissioner charged with theft. The case remains ongoing.<\/p>\n

State v. Cherno O. Cham & Babou Secka<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2013 NAWEC staff charged with official corruption. Trial is underway.<\/p>\n

State v. Ousman Jammeh<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2013 A GNPC pump attendant accused of absconding with over D1.16 million in sales. He has been charged with theft.<\/p>\n

State v. Ebrima Krubally<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2013 A supervisor at GNPC\u2019s Bansang station is accused of siphoning funds through tank shortages. The case is pending further legal advice.<\/p>\n

Minister Keita stressed that the government remains committed to pursuing accountability across public institutions and assured the public that due process will be followed in all ongoing cases.<\/p>\n
