He has nurtured a generation that is now capable of continuing his vision and completing the work he started,\u201d Bensouda said.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing internal debates within the party regarding his candidacy, Mayor Bensouda sought to clarify misunderstandings about the timing of his application relative to Darboe\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile there has been some discussion about differences between what I said and what I did, I want to clarify that when I submitted my application, I was informed that the party leader had not yet applied. I filed my application at the last minute with full knowledge of this,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>He added that Darboe\u2019s decision to also seek the flagbearer position is his democratic right, while emphasizing that his own motivation is to serve the Gambian people under the UDP banner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe respect that he has applied\u2014that is his right.
