Darboe, has urged the party to confront issues of diversity and fairness within its ranks as it prepares for the 2026 presidential election.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Coffee Time with Peter Gomez, Darboe stressed that the UDP must operate as an institution managed independently and equitably, serving the interests of all members rather than a select few.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed concern over sentiments suggesting that the party belongs to an individual, particularly its leader, Ousainou Darboe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have seen comments to that effect. They will say, Let Talib go and form his own party. So for me, the question is, who do they think owns the party? Do they think the party belongs to Ousainou Darboe? If they do, then obviously, that is unfortunate, because I do not subscribe to that,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Darboe warned that framing the party as the property of one person could discourage participation and drive away supporters, weakening the UDP\u2019s base ahead of the polls. \u201cBecause you will drive some people away. There is no question about that,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n<p>He further noted that remarks suggesting Talib Bensouda should create his own party if he seeks leadership are \u201cacrimonious and unfriendly\u201d but could still be taken seriously by Talib and others.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on the party\u2019s recent flagbearer race, Darboe said he regretted Talib Bensouda\u2019s withdrawal, arguing that his participation would have strengthened the process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the two big names were Ousainou Darboe and Talib Bensouda.
