Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Nominated National Assembly Member Maimuna Ceesay has criticized Auditor General Modou Ceesay\u2019s response to his proposed redeployment, describing it as humiliating to President Adama Barrow.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking during the parliamentary debate on the issue, Hon. Ceesay argued that the situation could have been managed more respectfully if the Auditor General had directly engaged the president rather than rejecting the offer in the manner he did.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know President Barrow is a very good listener. If the man [Modou Ceesay ] did not humiliate the president, instead of writing back to the president to tell him that, I appreciate the offer, but I am not a politician. Probably I might be diligently delivering where I am rather than being in the cabinet, but you cannot humiliate the president,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Hon. Ceesay further defended the president\u2019s decision, stressing that President Barrow acted in good faith and values consultation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe presidency is the highest position in this Gambia, and when you have a te\u0302te-a\u0300-te\u0302te with the president, I know he is somebody who relies on people\u2019s opinions; he never dictates. President Barrow is someone who never takes a decision on behalf of people without thorough consultation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

According to her, President Barrow recognized the Auditor General\u2019s expertise and believed he could make a meaningful impact as Minister of Trade. \u201cBecause of your expertise, he thought that if I redeploy to the Ministry of Trade, you might do better; you can reshape it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Hon. Ceesay also suggested that Mr. Ceesay\u2019s rejection of the ministerial post may have been influenced by external actors. \u201cAfter giving your consent, you left his office, you went to talk to those who were controlling your mind, giving you a different scenario that the man just wants to get rid of you because he is not comfortable with what you are doing as the AG,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She emphasized that no individual is indispensable in public office and expressed disappointment in the Auditor General\u2019s handling of the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cGambians, we have to be honest with ourselves. There is no man born for a position. Mr. Ceesay is someone that I have a high regard for, but I am so disappointed. He could have easily handled this situation without the way and manner he did,\u201d Hon. Ceesay concluded.<\/p>\n
