Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF) has presented the final evaluation report of its three-year project with the Gambia Immigration Department (GID), marking the completion of efforts to strengthen the institution\u2019s efficiency, accountability, and professionalism.<\/b><\/p>\n

The independent assessment, conducted by the Centre for Research and Policy Development (CRPD), highlights notable progress in building institutional capacity and enhancing transparency within the GID.<\/p>\n

Mark Lynch, Head of DCAF\u2019s Banjul Office, explained that the initiative\u2014funded by the Swiss Confederation\u2014was designed to support institutional reforms and capacity-building within the GID. He noted that the project aimed to make the department more effective in safeguarding human security while upholding international human rights standards, including gender equality.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are seeking your active participation to discuss the findings, conclusions, and recommendations. Today is an opportunity to reflect on the progress made under this project and also share lessons learned and highlight areas for continued reform and institutional strengthening,\u201d Lynch said, urging stakeholders to actively engage with the findings and recommendations.<\/p>\n

Deputy Director of Immigration Hulay Jallow expressed appreciation to the Swiss Confederation and DCAF for their support, describing the report as a milestone in the GID\u2019s ongoing reform journey.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we move forward, the Gambia Immigration Department remains committed to building on these foundations to deepen reforms and to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure that our borders are not only secured but also humane, efficient, and accountable to the people we serve,\u201d Jallow stated. She underscored that the report serves as both a record of achievements and a guide for future improvements.<\/p>\n

She said the report remains an essential reference point, reminding them of the progress made and the work still ahead in ensuring that their institution remains an effective, accountable, and citizen-centered service.<\/p>\n

Representing the Minister of Interior, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Administration and Finance Abraham K. Mendy affirmed that the evaluation reflects steady progress in enhancing GID\u2019s efficiency and accountability.<\/p>\n

\u201cPublic trust in the Gambia immigration department has improved significantly, with more Gambians rating the department\u2019s effectiveness, transparency, and accountability positively,\u201d Mendy said, noting that these outcomes demonstrate the tangible impact of the reforms.<\/p>\n

Stakeholders at the launch stressed the importance of transparency, accountability, and citizen-centered approaches in future reforms. They also encouraged ongoing collaboration to ensure the GID continues to evolve as an effective, professional, and people-focused institution.<\/p>\n
