Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Commissioner General of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), Mr. Yankuba Darboe, has applauded First Bank Gambia Limited for reactivating a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the authority for the collection of government revenue.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at the signing ceremony held on Wednesday, 8 October, at the GRA Boardroom in Banjul, Mr. Darboe says the main objective of the partnership is to ensure efficiency, transparency, and easy access to revenue collection for the authority.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want the process to be transparent, and there can be no better way than working through the banks,\u201d he said. \u201cExpectations are high, and I believe First Bank will deliver as expected.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Darboe commended the leadership of FirstBank for accepting to renew the partnership, describing it as an important step in GRA\u2019s efforts to strengthen accountability in public finance management.<\/p>\n

Deputy Commissioner General and Head of Domestic Taxes, Mr. Ensa Jallow, acknowledged the partnership for the pivotal role it plays in the economy. He said one of the main reasons for the MOU is to increase efficiency and digitalize revenue collection.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to make sure that our system is digitalized, and working with banks will make the process more cost-effective,\u201d he said, urging FirstBank to live up to expectations.<\/p>\n

Managing Director and CEO of FirstBank Gambia Limited, Mr. Gbenga O. Ajibola, expressed delight at the renewed collaboration, noting that the process began several months ago with firm commitment and dedication from both sides.<\/p>\n

He said FirstBank\u2019s participation in revenue collection will help support government operations, adding that the bank recognizes the outstanding performance of GRA under Mr. Darboe\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n

\u201cGRA\u2019s management is a winning team. We are proud to partner with such a dynamic institution,\u201d Mr. Ajibola said. \u201cFirstBank will adhere to all the terms and conditions of the MOU and ensure timely, efficient, and transparent service delivery.\u201d<\/p>\n

Executive Director of FirstBank Gambia, Mr. Alasana Jabby, described the event as another milestone in the bank\u2019s relationship with GRA. He says this is the second time the two institutions are signing such an agreement, noting that the new MOU re-activates the earlier contract.<\/p>\n

Mr. Jabby disclosed that FirstBank currently operates five branches within the Greater Banjul Area, with plans to open a branch in Brusubi soon and expand to Basse and Farafenni next year to support rural revenue collection.<\/p>\n

He said FirstBank, founded in 1894 in Nigeria, has the capacity and experience to deliver.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to replicate our reputation here in The Gambia and assure GRA that FirstBank will never disappoint,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

The ceremony was attended by senior management of both GRA and FirstBank Gambia Limited.<\/p>\n
