Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Gambia Ferry Services (GFS) has announced that the government has finalized payment for the purchase of two new ferries from Damen Shipyards in the Netherlands, with the first vessel expected to arrive at the Port of Banjul early next year.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to GFS, the new ferries will significantly transform ferry operations nationwide by reducing waiting times, improving safety standards, and enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the vessels is expected to arrive at the Port of Banjul by early next year, marking a significant milestone in the government\u2019s commitment to strengthening public infrastructure and service delivery,\u201d the service stated.<\/p>\n

The institution emphasized that, under its current leadership, there is renewed determination to deliver efficient, reliable, and customer-focused ferry services.<\/p>\n

As part of the monitoring and oversight process, a high-level Gambian delegation is currently in the Netherlands to assess progress on the construction of the two vessels. The delegation includes Fabakary Manka, General Manager of Gambia Ferry Services; Ousman Jobarteh, Managing Director of the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA); Kebba Tamsir Njie, Board Chairman; Francis Gomez, Director of Technical Services; and Pa Dawda Sanyang, Director of Operations.<\/p>\n

GFS reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and national service, describing the ferries as vital public assets that belong to all Gambians. \u201cAs a national asset, Gambia Ferry Services belongs to the people of The Gambia. With continued public support, engagement, and patriotic ownership, we believe this institution has the potential to become one of the best-managed in the subregion,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n

The institution further encouraged citizens to continue offering feedback and constructive suggestions, noting that strengthening national institutions is both an act of patriotism and a contribution to sustainable national development. \u201cPrioritizing national institutions is not only an act of patriotism but a critical contribution to national development.\u201d<\/p>\n
