Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Court orders non-cooperating witnesses to appear or face contempt charges Justice Ebrima Jaiteh of the High Court in Banjul has ordered three witnesses to appear before his court in the criminal trial involving one Muhammed Jallow who is accused of raping a 16-year-old girl.<\/p>\n

The witnesses, Aminata Dem, Safiatou Jallow and Isatou Ello Suwareh are all key witnesses in the trial but the prosecution deemed they are not cooperative.<\/p>\n

The trial judge lamented that the prosecution made several attempts to bring the witnesses to testify but they have proven very difficult and as a result, the prosecution led by lawyer BM Samura applied for sub-poena to compel them to appear.<\/p>\n

The court declared that their failure, neglect or refusal to appear before the court yesterday shall be deemed contempt and may be liable to a term of imprisonment. In the same vein, the commanding officer of Kunkujang police was directed to facilitate service of the court order on the witnesses.<\/p>\n
