He added: \u201cIt is quite remarkable that Essa Faal is accusing this government of deception and misplaced priorities. When it comes to misplaced priorities in the history of this New Gambia, Essa Faal is the king and poster boy for it.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Sabally recalled that Faal was appointed lead counsel of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) not through a fair or transparent process, but he was \u201chand-delivered the job by his friend, the then Justice Minister Ba Tambedou, through what Essa himself called \u201cYekalanteh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He accused the former TRRC lead counsel of turning the country\u2019s most sacred platform for truth and justice into \u201ca circus and drama scene\u201d to promote his personal \u201cpolitical ambitions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of focusing on establishing the truth, Faal was playing politics and promoting his personal brand in preparation for a presidential bid,\u201d Sabally stated. \u201cHe used taxpayers\u2019 money to pursue his personal ambition, is that the right priority for a grieving nation?, \u201d Sabally asked.<\/p>\n<p>The presidential adviser further alleged that Faal used the TRRC to build his public image, citing his donation of land to a prominent figure and his \u201cPR campaign\u201d of distributing food during the Covid-19 pandemic, which he said was \u201cdocumented with selfies to feed social media channels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sabally also accused Faal of abandoning his post at the TRRC before the conclusion of its work to pursue a political career, calling it a \u201cbetrayal\u201d of national trust.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCharles Taylor\u2019s former lawyer should apologise to the whole country for using the TRRC for his personal political mission and abandoning the commission before its job was completed,\u201d Sabally said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that there is now \u201cdocumentary evidence\u201d suggesting Faal \u201cmisused\u201d state resources while serving as lead counsel, including \u201cquestionable payments of huge sums such as a so-called motivational package for his personal benefit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we cannot trust you to act on the right priorities in a small commission of enquiry, then how can we trust you with our national treasury, Essa Mbye Faal?\u201d Sabally concluded.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Gambia<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Gambia.
