Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Principal of Kaur Upper Basic School in Lower Saloum, Lamin Nyangado, has called on the government and development partners to prioritize infrastructural development at the school to improve the learning environment.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking to The Voice recently during a tree-growing exercise organized by Women Initiative Gambia (WIG), Principal Nyangado commended the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education for its continued efforts toward achieving quality education across the country. However, he stressed that the school\u2019s infrastructure remains a major challenge that requires urgent attention.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur priority as a school is to improve on infrastructural development to create an effective learning environment,\u201d Nyangado said. \u201cThe current state of our classrooms and administrative block needs a complete overhaul to ensure a conducive space for both teaching and learning.\u201d<\/p>\n

He highlighted that Kaur Upper Basic School is one of the oldest institutions in the Central River Region, with many of its former students now serving in key positions within government and non-governmental organizations.<\/p>\n

He therefore appealed to alumni to give back and support the school\u2019s academic and infrastructural development.<\/p>\n

According to him, the school currently faces several challenges, including the lack of staff quarters, inadequate classrooms to accommodate the growing student population, and a poor fencing system that compromises the safety of both students and school property.<\/p>\n

Also speaking, Isatou Ceesay, Executive Director of Women Initiative Gambia and a former student of Kaur Secondary Technical School, expressed delight in contributing to environmental protection through the establishment of an Environmental Heroes Club at the school.<\/p>\n

She noted that many of the buildings at the school remain unchanged since her time there in the late 1980s, emphasizing the urgent need for government and partners to invest in modern infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a real need for the construction of state-of-the-art facilities to provide a better environment for both students and teachers,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The tree-growing exercise formed part of WIG\u2019s ongoing efforts to promote environmental awareness and community participation in climate resilience initiatives across schools in the Central River Region.<\/p>\n
