Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Sulayman Waan, journalist and leader of the newly launched Change Front political movement, has expressed confidence that he can defeat President Adama Barrow in the December 2026 presidential election.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking in an interview, Waan said Gambians will rally behind his movement because of its strong and realistic programs designed to bring meaningful change to the country.\u201cGambians are decent people; Gambians are people who listen to people, and we have good programs and policies. Gambians will listen to us, and they will vote for us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Waan said his decision to form the Change Front stemmed from dissatisfaction with the existing political parties and their policies. He explained that his movement has developed innovative and practical solutions targeting key national sectors such as agriculture, local governance, and land distribution\u2014areas he believes are mismanaged under the current administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you come to agriculture, everyone is talking about farm mechanization, but for us, we are going beyond that; we are talking about building the capacity of farmers and training them in new technologies. We are talking about coming up with a farmers\u2019 cooperative bank,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also proposed a major reform of local government administration, including the removal of regional governors and deputy governors, which he described as redundant positions that duplicate the roles of elected councils.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are saying we want to remove the whole governors and deputy governors of all the regions; we are saying there is a conflict of interest and duplication of funds between the councils and the governors,\u201d he argued.<\/p>\n

On land distribution, Waan said his movement would prioritize ordinary citizens over the politically connected and wealthy individuals who currently dominate land allocations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will prioritize the average Gambian before we give land to a minister or a director. Why don\u2019t we give it to an average Gambian who is sitting at home with his wife and six children in the same room?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

Waan further outlined plans to streamline government ministries by merging the Ministry of Information with the Ministry of Digital Economy and making the Ministry of Gender a department under the Ministry of Health. \u201cWe are saying the Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Digital Economy are going to be one, and the Ministry of Gender is going to be a department under the Ministry of Health,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Asked whether he would consider joining President Barrow\u2019s government for the sake of national development, Waan dismissed the possibility, saying his movement\u2019s vision and principles differ sharply from those of the National People\u2019s Party (NPP).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe programs and policies of the Change Front Movement and the programs and policies of the National People\u2019s Party are just like day and night. It cannot be possible,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
