Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The National Assembly of The Gambia has announced that Hon. Madi M.K. Ceesay, the member for Serrekunda West, has been elected to the Continental Board of the African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption (APNAC). His election took place during the network\u2019s 9th Biennial General Meeting (BGM), held from November 7\u20139, 2025, in Accra, Ghana.<\/b><\/p>\n

The 2025 BGM centered on revitalizing APNAC\u2019s strategic direction, enhancing collaboration among African parliamentarians, and addressing persistent challenges in the fight against corruption at both national and regional levels.<\/p>\n

According to the National Assembly\u2019s statement, Hon. Ceesay\u2014who also chairs the Standing Committee on Human Rights and Constitutional Matters\u2014was elected in recognition of his \u201cleadership and unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability.\u201d He will serve a two-year term on the restructured board, following recent constitutional reforms that broadened APNAC\u2019s leadership structure, including an expansion of vice presidents from one to four.<\/p>\n

\u201cHon. Ceesay, who is also chairperson of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights and Constitutional Matters, is recognized for his leadership and commitment to promoting transparency and accountability. He will serve a two-year term on the restructured board, following key constitutional reforms that expanded APNAC\u2019s leadership framework, including the increase of vice presidents from one to four,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

The meeting also marked a smooth transition to a new board chaired by the Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana, Rt. Hon. Alban S.K. Bagbin, who pledged to strengthen APNAC\u2019s continental repositioning efforts.<\/p>\n

Hon. Ceesay joins other board members from Cameroon, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Zambia, Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire, Zimbabwe, and Ghana.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis election places The Gambia at the forefront of continental anti-corruption initiatives and reaffirms the country\u2019s commitment to good governance and parliamentary integrity,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n
