Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The four-day 10th Executive Council Meeting of the Federation of African News Agencies (FAAPA) has ended in Libreville with the announcement of the winners of the 2025 Grand Prix Competition.<\/b><\/p>\n

Usman Aliyu of the News Agency of Nigeria won the Feature Article category for his piece \u201cSwipe to Survive\u201d, which explores how digital payments are helping to address youth unemployment in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Yacouba Soro of the Ivorian News Agency (AIP) won the Video category with \u201cPlastic Waste: from pollutant to development lever\u201d, highlighting innovations in plastic waste management in Abidjan, the Ivorian capital.<\/p>\n

The Best Photo Story went to Guylain Kipoke Omba of the Congo (Kinshasa) News Agency (ACP) for a compelling image showing a mother\u2019s desperate effort to save her child from drowning after a 24-hour downpour.<\/p>\n

The winners will each receive 1,000 dollars in January 2026 at FAAPA\u2019s next General Assembly session in Marrakech, Morocco.Mr Mohammed Anis, Secretary-General of FAAPA, announced the Grand Prix results following the evaluation of the entries by the members.<\/p>\n

The meeting was formally opened by Gabon\u2019s Vice-President, Alexandre Barro Chambrier, who highlighted the strategic importance of national news agencies in promoting credible information, social cohesion and democratic values, especially in an age of rising misinformation.<\/p>\n

Mr Fouad Arif, President of FAAPA, reaffirmed the continental body\u2019s commitment to capacity building, strengthening Internally Generated Funds (IGF), and strengthening its thematic professional networks in Women, Fact-Checking and Health Communication.Founded in 2014, FAAPA serves as a pan-African platform for national news agencies to collaborate, exchange best practices, train staff and carry out joint reporting.<\/p>\n

It supports the growth of institutional capacity, editorial standards and sustainable operations among its members, helping to build a more informed African public.<\/p>\n

At the closing event, FAAPA members expressed their appreciation to the Gabonese News Agency (AGP) and the Government of Gabon for their warm hospitality in hosting the event.<\/p>\n

They also extended their gratitude to the Moroccan News Agency (MAP) and King Mohammed VI of Morocco for their steadfast support in capacity building and technical assistance \u2013 support that has been central to the federation\u2019s progress.<\/p>\n
