Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>In a bid to strengthen cooperation in the area of agricultural development, the Farmers\u2019 Union of The Gambia recently held a strategic meeting with officials of the Chinese Embassy aimed at deepening cooperation and explore new avenues of support in the country\u2019s agricultural sector.<\/b><\/p>\n

The meeting held at the Embassy in Bijilo, brought together senior representatives from both sides.<\/p>\n

The Gambian delegation was led by Badou Bah, who is also the president of the Farmers Union, accompanied by Alagie Ceesay, Vice President, Modou Njie, Secretary General, and Pa Nderry Touray, agricultural advocate and Brand Ambassador of the Union.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, Ambassador Liu Jin highlighted the long-standing friendship between the two countries and the centrality of agriculture in both nations\u2019 development goals.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoth China and The Gambia have similarities, and agriculture remains key in our drive,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

For his part, Badou Bah, president of the Farmers Union, expressed gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for opening its doors to the Union and reaffirmed the union\u2019s untiring interest in learning from China\u2019s rich agricultural expertise.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are happy and grateful that you opened your door for us, and the Farmers\u2019 Union would love to learn from the master of agriculture China,\u201d Bah stated.<\/p>\n

Also, discussions during the forum mainly focused on challenges Gambian farmers face, including limited market opportunities, and technical training.<\/p>\n

In light of this, the Chinese side expressed their willingness to collaborate in areas such as mechanisation, capacity building, value addition, and potential investment in agricultural infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Both parties also agreed to hold follow-up meetings to outline priority areas and translate the discussions into practical support for farmers across the country.<\/p>\n

The Farmers\u2019 Union described the meeting as encouraging and forward-looking, adding that forging stronger cooperation with China would help in boosting productivity and enhancing the country\u2019s food security drive.<\/p>\n
