Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Spain has joined The Gambia\u2019s Cinekambia International Film Festival for the first time as the event opened its sixth edition at the University of The Gambia (UTG) in Kanifing.<\/b><\/p>\n

The five-day festival, organised under the theme \u201cAuthentic African Storytelling Through Film and Cinema,\u201d seeks to expose students, filmmakers, and diplomats to diverse cultural perspectives through cinema.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the opening ceremony on Friday, Spain\u2019s Charge\u0301 d\u2019Affaires in Banjul, Violeta Insa, said the country\u2019s participation forms part of the cultural initiative \u201cGambia E Scena,\u201d which highlights flamenco as a major Spanish art form. She described Spain\u2019s debut as \u201cthe opening of a cultural bridge\u201d that will enhance bilateral cooperation in the arts.<\/p>\n

Dean of the UTG School of Journalism and Digital Media, Prof. Melchizedek Onobe, said the festival aims not only to screen films but also to strengthen identity and cultural expression. \u201cOur stories are ours to tell,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Festival founder, filmmaker Prince Bubacarr Aminatta Sankanu, said Cinekambia continues to expand its international partnerships after Germany\u2019s participation last year. He urged students and young filmmakers to take advantage of the exposure provided by foreign collaborations.<\/p>\n

Running from 5\u20137 and 12\u201313 December, the festival has grown into a major cultural platform, drawing more than 700 university students and promoting intercultural dialogue and artistic exchange.<\/p>\n
