Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The People\u2019s Alliance for Change (PAC), a newly formed civil society body has said no single individual can bring meaningful change in The Gambia while outlining its plans and preparations ahead of the 2026 presidential election.<\/b><\/p>\n

PAC leaders made the remarks on Friday during a press conference held at the Alliance Franc\u0327aise, where they briefed journalists on the alliance\u2019s mission, organizational direction and election roadmap.<\/p>\n

Deputy Chairperson, Papa Jagne, said PAC was founded in September 2025 at the Lamin CDC by a group of citizens concerned about what he described as ineffective leadership and worsening socio-economic conditions.<\/p>\n

He said the alliance was created to promote competent, accountable governance and to protect the country\u2019s democratic future, adding that ordinary Gambians continue to bear the cost of weak leadership.<\/p>\n

Jagne disclosed that nearly 15 political parties have responded positively to PAC\u2019s outreach efforts, which he described as an encouraging sign of growing support for political unity ahead of the 2026 polls.<\/p>\n

According to him, PAC aims to bring together political parties, civil society organizations, movements and individuals under a broad national alliance that prioritizes the national interest over personal ambition. He says the group is working toward supporting a single credible candidate through consultations and transparent processes.<\/p>\n

PAC Chairman, Omar Musa Barrow said the alliance emerged from widespread frustration with the country\u2019s current state, stressing that collective action was essential for national progress.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne person cannot change the country,\u201d Barrow said, adding that PAC was neither a political party nor a movement but an alliance seeking to transform Gambian politics through unity.<\/p>\n

Reading the official statement, environmental activist Kemo Fatty said the press briefing was intended to update the public on PAC\u2019s level of preparedness, clarify its vision and introduce its interim coordinating leadership.<\/p>\n

He says the alliance advocates for transparent and accountable political processes, increased youth and women participation, improved public service delivery, and comprehensive economic, social and political reforms.<\/p>\n

Fatty also announced the establishment of an interim coordinating leadership to oversee communication, policy direction, mobilization and strategic planning, pending the unveiling of a full executive body next week.<\/p>\n
