In his presentation, Professor Gomez highlighted that government revenues grew substantially in 2024, with tax collections surpassing targets and grants slightly exceeding expectations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFinancial year 2024 saw government revenues strengthen significantly, reaching D24.6 billion, or 95 percent of the approved budget,\u201d Professor Gomez said. \u201cTax revenue totaled D19.1 billion, exceeding the target by 10 percent and accounting for nearly 89 percent of domestic revenue. Non-tax revenue stood at D2.4 billion, representing 43.2 percent of its target and 11.1 percent of domestic revenue. Grants amounted to D3.2 billion, slightly above the projected figure at 101.7 percent of the target.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On expenditures, he noted that total spending of D27.9 billion was broadly in line with the approved budget. Government operations accounted for D12.7 billion, transfers to other government entities totaled D4.3 billion, capital expenditure was D2.8 billion, interest payments reached D4.6 billion, social benefits amounted to D392.2 million, and other expenses totaled D3.2 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Gomez emphasized that the timely presentation of audited accounts reflects the government\u2019s commitment to financial transparency and responsiveness to citizens\u2019 needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy presenting the audited accounts for the 2024 financial year, we fulfill a long-standing goal of achieving in-year reporting, ensuring that our nation\u2019s financial management remains current and accountable to the Gambian people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He urged members of the National Assembly to carefully review the Auditor General\u2019s findings and use them to strengthen accountability and public financial management.<\/p>\n<p>The 2024 audited financial statements have now been referred to the Finance and Public Accounts Committee for further scrutiny.
