Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama\u2019at in The Gambia, Baba F. Trawally, has called on Gambians to uphold unity, peace, and tolerance as the country enters 2026 and prepares for the presidential election scheduled for December 2026.<\/b><\/p>\n

In a New Year message, Amir Trawally expressed gratitude to Allah for the successful conclusion of 2025 and urged citizens to use the new year as a period of reflection and renewed national commitment.<\/p>\n

He said 2026 carries special significance as it is a decisive election year, noting that the period calls for political engagement anchored in peace, respect, and national cohesion.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Gambia is a nation rich in cultural, ethnic, religious, and political diversity, and these differences are not weaknesses but strengths that have sustained peaceful coexistence for generations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Quoting verses from the Holy Qur\u2019an, the Amir stressed that diversity is intended to promote mutual understanding and unity rather than division, urging Gambians to appreciate one another and work collectively towards a shared future.<\/p>\n

As political activities intensify ahead of the 2026 elections, Amir Trawally cautioned against intolerance, hate speech, and violence, emphasising that democracy extends beyond voting to include responsible conduct before, during, and after elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cPolitical affiliation should never become a source of hatred or conflict. Despite differing political views, Gambians remain bound by a common destiny,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He further underscored the importance of peace, describing it as not only the absence of conflict but the presence of justice, dialogue, and mutual respect. He called on citizens to resolve disagreements through dialogue and to act as ambassadors of peace in their communities and online spaces.<\/p>\n

The Amir also appealed for tolerance during the election period, saying it was essential for healthy debate, democratic growth, and social harmony.<\/p>\n

Highlighting national development challenges, including youth unemployment, education, healthcare, and economic growth, Amir Trawally said unity across political and social lines was key to unlocking the country\u2019s collective potential.<\/p>\n

He urged Gambians to remain law-abiding, care for the poor and vulnerable, and reject misinformation and violence in all forms.<\/p>\n
