Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>PPP intends to keep 2 Banjul seats The leader of the People\u2019s Progressive Party, Kebba Jallow has said his party intends to retain their two seats in Banjul and also wants to contest four other constituencies in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.<\/p>\n

Mr Jallow did not however reveal the other constituencies PPP intends to contest. Accordingly, Mr Jallow appealed to President Adama Barrow and his NPP not to put up candidates in those two constituencies in Banjul.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe PPP central committee had a short meeting and the only agenda was the forthcoming elections. But we will have to look at all the angles in view of the fact that PPP is a founding member of the coalition and President Barrow\u2019s presidency because we have supported him throughout the five years. But PPP has its own constitution and we cannot exist as a party if we do not have a candidate in the parliament. So the party intends to put up some more candidates under the purview of the coalition. The good news is that our constitution agrees with the principle that coalition members should not oppose each other,\u201d the PPP leader said.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cWe will support NPP to have super majority in parliament but our intention is to limit ourselves to the possibility of not more than six seats and we have discussed that with the coalition.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe expect President Barrow and his NPP to leave these two seats for us, Banjul Central and South and they are free to contest Banjul North. So I believe that he will support us on that,\u201c he said. According to him, there is no agreement yet between them and the NPP on how to go about things in the parliamentary elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn view of that, we have a stake in it. We will have our own place because I believe that President Barrow is a democrat, and he is not thinking that he is going to get all the seats in parliament,\u201d Mr Jallow said.<\/p>\n
