{"id":95443,"date":"2026-03-30T09:27:49","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T09:27:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/uncategorized\/fuel-prices-stable-amid-global-pressures-minister-warns"},"modified":"2026-03-30T10:00:36","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T10:00:36","slug":"fuel-prices-stable-amid-global-pressures-minister-warns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/all-news\/fuel-prices-stable-amid-global-pressures-minister-warns","title":{"rendered":"Fuel Prices Stable Amid Global Pressures Minister Warns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"ap-article-header-tag\"> <strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Gambia. <\/strong> <\/span><b>The Gambia has yet to feel the immediate effects of the global fuel crisis driven by tensions in the Middle East, but officials say the country remains highly vulnerable to potential disruptions, the information minister, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, said this week.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Speaking to TRT on the sidelines of the Stratcom Summit 2026 in Istanbul, Dr. Ceesay said government subsidies have so far shielded consumers from rising global energy costs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur fuel prices are still stabilized,\u201d he said, pointing to what he described as a deliberate policy to cushion households and businesses from external shocks. \u201cThose subsidies are still on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Gambia, which imports nearly all of its energy needs \u2014 much of it from the Middle East \u2014 faces significant exposure should the conflict persist or escalate. Dr. Ceesay warned that the crisis is likely to have far-reaching consequences beyond the region.\u201cIt\u2019s going to have a serious impact, not only on The Gambia, but across the world,\u201d he said, noting that many African countries share similar vulnerabilities due to their reliance on imported fuel.<\/p>\n<p>For now, however, the effects have not been felt domestically. \u201cAs of now, we haven\u2019t felt it on our palms yet,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the government is preparing for possible disruptions. The duration and trajectory of the conflict, he said, will largely determine how severely countries like The Gambia are affected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t know how long this war will last. It is very unpredictable,\u201d Dr. Ceesay said. \u201cDepending on its longevity, that will decide the scale of its impact on our countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Officials are considering a range of measures to mitigate potential fallout, including strategies to better manage strategic fuel reserves and reduce dependence on external suppliers.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Ceesay also underscored the need for longer-term solutions, including diversifying energy sources and improving domestic energy use.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are looking at how to reduce exposure to these shocks,\u201d he said, \u201cwhile ensuring that we use our strategic reserves judiciously and explore alternative ways of sourcing and consuming energy at home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"ap-article-footer-note\">Find more news and analyses on <span class=\"ap-highlight-country\">Gambia<\/span> on the <span class=\"ap-highlight-brand\">Africa Press<\/span> website<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Gambia.
