Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has collected over D7.7 billion in the first quarter of 2026, exceeding its target and signalling continued growth in domestic revenue mobilisation.<\/b><\/p>\n

Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe told a press conference in Banjul on Wednesday that the Authority realised D7,714,280,444.65 against a target of D7,466,927,428, representing a 3 percent increase above expectations and a surplus of more than D247 million.<\/p>\n

He described the performance as \u201cencouraging,\u201d noting that it reflects consistency and resilience in the country\u2019s revenue systems. The Authority collected an average of D2.57 billion per month during the period.<\/p>\n

Compared to the same period in 2025, revenue rose by 14 percent, with an additional D971 million generated. Darboe said the figures highlight a steady upward trend in revenue collection over recent years.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn practical terms, what we collected in just three months is equivalent to what the Authority mobilised in an entire year around 2010,\u201d he said, citing improvements in tax administration and compliance.<\/p>\n

The Commissioner General added that March 2026 marked a historic milestone, with revenue collections exceeding D3 billion in a single month for the first time. Collections in March reached D3.16 billion, surpassing the target by 5 percent and showing a 22 percent increase from March 2025.<\/p>\n

The government has set a revenue target of over D28.1 billion for the 2026 fiscal year. Darboe said the first quarter performance accounts for 27 percent of the annual goal, placing the Authority on track to meet or exceed expectations, assuming stable economic conditions.<\/p>\n

He cautioned that external factors, including rising global oil prices, could affect projections. Darboe noted that government is expected to forgo over D300 million in April alone to stabilise fuel prices, which may influence revenue flows.<\/p>\n

Darboe attributed the gains to ongoing reforms, enhanced compliance measures, enforcement strategies, and the gradual digitalisation of tax processes. He commended taxpayers, financial institutions, telecom companies, and audit firms for their contributions, and reaffirmed GRA\u2019s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and national development.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to build on this momentum to deliver on our mandate for the benefit of all Gambians,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
