Africa-Press – Ghana. The National House of Chiefs has expunged from its register the name of Torgbui Korbadzi III, from the National Register of Chiefs as ‘Dufia’ (Chief) of Avenor Gefia.
The Standing Committee Meeting of the National House unanimously resolved to have the name deleted from its register as Dufia of Avenor Gefia in the Avenor Traditional Area, in the Volta region.
It said in its letter dated 7th May, 2025, and signed by Mr Anthony Yeboah Tabiri, Registrar of the National House, that the deletion stemmed from the fact that, at the time of registration of Torgbui Korbadzi III, there was already a substantive chief of Gefia by name Torgbui Kludzi III, whose details were entered into the register as far back as 2015, and is neither deceased, abdicated nor destooled.
Again, a research review and confirmation from the records of the Volta Region House of Chiefs also attested that Torgbui Kludzi was dully registered as Dufia of Gefia since 2015, is alive and status remained legitimate Dufia of Gefia, according to a letter dated 12th March, 2025, signed by Mr Muhammed Ikililu, acting, Volta Regional Registrar.
Torgbui Korbadzi, known in private life as Michael Paapa Ahiadeke, got enstooled on 12th February 2019, when Torgbui Kludzi III became Dufia of Gefia, on 15th April 2006.
Press investigations indicated that part of a search by the solicitors of Torgbui Kludzi III through the Research Committee of the Regional House of Chiefs revealed that no investigation was conducted on the application by Torgbui Korbadzi (Ahiadeke) for registration as Dufia of Gefia, a situation that was gray in the registration process.
Throwing light on the development, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, President of the Volta Region House of Chiefs told that the emerging trend of double enstoolment of Chiefs to one stool in the same traditional area was becoming a norm and needed to be nibbed in the bud with utmost urgency.
He said the perpetrators of his dastard conduct deployed corrupt and fraudulent schemes to ‘beat the system’ to have their way, which he described as legally and morally wrong.
He said his administration was guided by the foregoing and tightening the grip on the processes of acquiring the Chieftaincy Declaration Forms, available only to accredited Kingmakers after background checks.
Togbe Tepre Hodo stated the Regional House would not knowingly issue or process such forms and warned not to recognize any such infractions based on false claims and selfish reasons.
He urged legitimate Chiefs and Kingmakers to be proactive in notifying the Regional House of such negative developments entreating them to rise against imposters.
He said false declaration was perjury and culprits must be reported to the law enforcers, moreso, when the occupier of a stool, is not dead, abdicated or destooled, ‘why do you enstool a parallel chief?
