Africa-Press – Ghana. The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) will track the implementation of the government’s 24-hour economy initiative, Government Statistician Dr Alhassan Iddrisu has said.

The monitoring aims to assess the initiative’s effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and ensure it meets its objectives of stimulating economic activity and growth through a three-shift system.

“We’ve had initial engagement with the executives with regards to the 24-hour economy, and definitely the information or the data we collect from the IBES would definitely inform the implementation of the 24-hour economy,” he said.

Dr Iddrisu made the remarks in response to a question from the Ghana News Agency on the relevance of the 2025 Ghana Integrated Business Establishment Survey II (IBES II).

He was speaking on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of the 2025 IBES II training-of-trainers workshop held in Winneba on Monday.

The workshop equipped 240 national and regional trainers.

The training provided participants with technical skills and tools to support field operations for collecting data from over 40,000 enterprises nationwide.

Enumerators will gather information on production value and structure, capital formation, employment, business innovation, and sector-specific challenges.

Dr Iddrisu noted that, as part of the Service’s rebranding, GSS would go beyond traditional data collection and analysis to produce data that informs decision-making at all development levels, including policy implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.

“The data we gather through IBES II will serve multiple critical purposes. Therefore, the outcomes will help shape policy, inform investment decisions and support Ghana’s investment agenda,” he said.

“We’ll be able to know the type of employment that existing businesses are employing, the type of people existing businesses are employing, and tell the type of jobs that are required for businesses to function properly,” he added.

Dr Anthony Kraka, IBES II Project Coordinator, said the survey would provide evidence to assess the progress of the 24-hour economy initiative.

“We’re going to measure the impact of the policies that are implemented going forward. This will help us to understand the business challenges and know where they are in terms of their operations in the 24-hour economy,” he said.

Dr Kraka added that IBES data would also support the rebasing of key macroeconomic indicators, including Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the Producer Price Index (PPI), and the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).
