Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Nelson Madiba Amo, Executive Director, GBHub Africa, says the hub’s $10 million investment in agriculture start-ups across the value chain prioritises robust capacity building.
He said the GBHub initiative went beyond traditional financing for agriculture, emphasising a comprehensive approach to empowering Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
The Executive Director said this at the GBHub Africa Stakeholder engagement on agriculture value chain financing held in Accra on Thursday.
The gathering brought together stakeholders from Ghana’s agribusiness, investment, policy, and development sectors to engage in meaningful conversations on driving investments in the agriculture value chain.
He said, “The whole idea from GB Foods’ shareholders is how they can contribute to deepening investments in Africa’s agriculture value chain. How can we grow start-ups in value chains, starting right from farming inputs to farming, to processing value addition, to logistics and to access to markets for this produce.”
The Executive Director said the investments were intentionally curated to ensure that entrepreneurs and businesses in the agriculture sector had access to the necessary funding.
He underscored the impact-driven nature of GBHub’s financing, which was tailored to the specific needs of agribusiness.
Ghana’s agriculture sector is often neglected in the financing framework of businesses due to high risk and susceptibility to external factors like climate change.
Financial institutions often lack the sophisticated tools to adequately assess and mitigate the unique risks associated with agriculture ventures.
Mr Angel Lossado, Spain’s Ambassador to Ghana, said GB Foods’ investments in Ghana, particularly in agriculture, reflected the long-standing bilateral relations between Ghana and Spain.
The Ambassador stated that GB Foods’ economic endeavours in Ghana clearly fostered the idea of Spain and Ghana working together to create a better future for their respective citizens.
He expressed his desire to support and encourage the ongoing work and future vision of GB Foods, symbolising the broader dream of an effective bilateral relationship across societies and economies.
