Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation has engaged a high-level Mexican delegation to discuss ways to strengthen diplomatic relations through a renewed commitment to sports and youth development.
The team, led by Her Excellency Norma Ang, Ambassador of Mexico to Ghana, and Mr. Fernando Alvarado Valenzuela, Deputy Head of Mission further advanced talks on technical capacity across disciplines.
Welcoming the delegation, the Sports Minister remarked that for many Ghanaians, sports particularly football and boxing served as their first introduction to Mexico.
He commended Mexico for its outstanding role in promoting sports globally.
The Sports Minister again applauded the North Americans for their efforts in preparing to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside the United States and Canada.
Mr. Iddie Adams assured the delegation that the Ministry would establish a dedicated working group to collaborate with the Embassy of Mexico in developing a comprehensive framework to steer the partnership.
Ambassador Ang highlighted the important role sports had played in strengthening the relationship between Mexico and Ghana.
She reaffirmed her government’s commitment to deepening collaboration in key disciplines such as boxing, basketball, football, and other disciplines.
She further offered key insights into Mexico’s expertise in FIFA referee training, sports management development, and the use of university networks to identify and cultivate sporting talent.
As part of building a long-lasting relationship, the Ambassador proposed hosting a boxing-themed photo exhibition honoring Mexican champions, along with a film festival aimed at highlighting Mexico’s vibrant sporting history and culture.
Ghana and Mexico share a growing history of sports diplomacy which have long connected both nations.
