Africa-Press – Ghana. Religious leaders in the Berekum East Municipality of the Bono Region have presented waste bins to the Assembly to improve waste management and sanitation.
According to Hajia Fatimatu Abubakar, the Berekum East Municipal Chief Executive, the religious leaders procured the waste bins from the offertory of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving service organized in the municipality.
In an interview with the media, she expressed appreciation to the religious bodies for their massive participation in the service and the presentation, saying the Municipality required collective support to bring its development to the next level.
Hajia Abubakar said the Assembly had prioritised proper sanitation and waste management, urging the people to avoid littering and indiscriminate dumping of refuse to keep the municipality clean and stem the outbreak of diseases.
She said the Assembly had launched the “Clean Berekum” campaign aimed at promoting a cleaner and healthy environment, saying the waste bins would greatly help achieve the vision of the campaign.
Hajia Abubakar urged everybody to support and contribute to environmental sanitation and sustainability.
She said: “The Municipal Assembly looks forward to a continuous collaboration with the religious leaders and the broader community to ensure the success of the campaign”.
