Africa-Press – Ghana. Voting is underway at the Ablekuma North Constituency where the Electroral Commission (EC) is conducting a rerun of the elections in 19 polling stations.
The Ghana News Agency observed Friday morning that the elections had taken off smoothly, with strong police presence in the Constituency.
Police patrol teams were also seen on streets within the Constituency as they enhanced visibility and law and order.
Agents of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were also on the ground to observe the exercise.
The exercise however appeared to have commenced slowly in some polling centres as only few voters showed up to cast their ballot an hour after opening of polls.
At the Odorkor MTTD Divisional Station, Odorkor 1 polling station, only 3 people had voted as of 0750 hours.
At the Odorkor 4 Presby Church Polling Centre, 10 people had cast their ballot as of 0730 hours.
Madam Abigail Fiadjoe, the Presiding Officer, Odorkor MTTD Divisional Station, told that the exercise had been smooth with no glitches.
“We were ready before the schedule time. All our machines are working and so far we’ve had no issues,” she said.
Mr Emmanuel Adotey Allotey, Municipal Chief Executive, Ga Central, said the NDC monitoring team were so far satisfied with the electoral process and rallied members of the party eligible to vote to go and cast their ballot.
“The exercise has so far been smooth. It is our hope that there would be no skirmishes by the close od polls,” he said.
Madam Irene Siaw, Second Vice Chairperson, NPP, said the Party had so far not observed anything untoward in the Coantuency.
She urged members of the Party to remain vigilant and work to ensure victory for their candidate.
The Ablekuma North Constituency is the only constituency that does not have representation in Parliament due to a stalemate that stalled the declaration of the results for the constituency after the close of polls on December 7, 2024.
The EC said the rerun of the elections in 19 polling stations was necessary to complete the 281 polling stations results for subsequent declaration of the winner.
