Africa-Press – Ghana. Voting in the parliamentary election rerun at the Ablekuma North Constituency officially ended at 1700 hours across all 19 polling stations selected for the exercise.

Police personnel were strategically positioned to maintain law and order as supporters from both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) gathered behind barricades to observe the counting process.

Preliminary results from three key polling stations observed show a slight lead for the NDC’s candidate, Madam Ewurabena Aubynn, who garnered more votes than her opponent, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie of the NPP, in all three centres.

At the Presby Odorkor Church 4 polling station, Madam Aubynn secured 37 votes as against Madam Owusu Afriyie’s 31, with a total 68 ballots cast out of an expected 112.

At the Church of Pentecost North Odorkor 2, the NDC candidate polled 18 votes while the NPP candidate had 15. A total of 33 ballots were cast out of 67 expected voters.

The Church of Pentecost North Odorkor 4 recorded 38 votes for Madam Aubynn and 21 for Madam Owusu Afriyie, totaling 59 votes out of 137 expected.

Supporters of the NDC erupted in jubilation at the various centres, expressing optimism that the trend would continue in their favour as the Electoral Commission began the collation of results from all 19 polling stations.

The rerun was necessitated by disputes surrounding the December 7, 2024 parliamentary election results.

The Electoral Commission indicated that scanned result sheets used during the initial collation had not been verified by the presiding officers of the affected polling stations.

This prompted concerns over the integrity of the declared results.

While the Commission initially planned to collate results from all but three polling stations, the NDC challenged the use of scanned results reportedly submitted by NPP officials after original documents were destroyed during the chaotic collation process.

The party insisted on a rerun in 37 polling stations, although the EC eventually settled on 19 after review.

On July 9, the High Court in Accra dismissed an application filed by Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie seeking to halt the rerun.

Despite the NPP’s earlier indication of a boycott, she confirmed her participation ahead of the poll.

The outcome of the rerun will complete results from all 281 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency, which has 6,839 registered voters across the 19 centres.

The polling stations involved in the rerun include God First International School (Darkuman 1); Pentecost Church Mount Zion Assembly (Kwashieman); DVLA Office – Awoshie Adamami 2; Living Spring Day Nursery (Kwashiebu 1); The Lord’s Pentecostal Church (Kwashiebu), Presby Church Odorkor 4; Church of Pentecost North Odorkor 4; Methodist Church Odorkor 1; and St. John’s Baptist Church Odorkor 1.
