Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Eric Opoku, the Minister of Food and Agriculture has declared his intention to contest the flagbearership slot and to succeed President John Dramani Mahama and lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to political victory in the Election 2028.

Mr Collins Mahama, the NDC’s Communication Officer in the ‘Brong-Ahafo’ disclosed the intention of the sector minister, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Asunafo South constituency in the Ahafo Region.

Reacting to flyers of the Minister shared on social media and labeling him as a presidential aspirant of the NDC in the Election 2028, Mr Mahama, a close ally, told in Sunyani that “Yes, Mr Opoku has officially made his intentions known to us openly”.

He said: “He is contesting the flagbearership race and we are waiting for our great party to open the nominations”, explaining that the sector minister had built a strong party-support base at the grassroots to win the party’s presidential race.

“We are truly convinced that with him the NDC will win the Election 2028 with ease and maintain political power in the supreme interest of Ghanaians in general and the NDC in particular”, he stated,

Mr Mahama, also a former Propaganda Secretary of the NDC said: “Mr Opoku is well marketed not only in the party, but the nation as a whole, and so we will not waste much resources in selling him to the electorate”.

He said: “It is not premature for the Minister to declare his intention because the NDC party allows that”, saying “our party’s internal dynamics are changing, hence the need for the sector minister to prepare himself early and to take over from President John Dramani Mahama”.
