Nation Honors Late Alhaj Muniru: Speaker Urges Unity

Africa-Press – Ghana. The leadership of Parliament has paid tribute to the late Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, a former Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, who lost his life in the tragic Helicopter accident.

“We are deeply affected by the loss, and our words will likely bring comfort and solace to those who are grieving,” Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament said.

Mr Bagbin said this on Monday when he led a delegation from Parliament to officially visit the residence of the late Alhaji Mohammed Limuna to pay their respects.

The delegation included the Clerk to Parliament, Mr Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror; Mr Mahama Ayayriga, Majority Leader; Madam Patricia Appiagyei; Deputy Minority Leader, Mr Rockson Nelson Etse Dafeamepkor, Majority Chief Whip; and Madam Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah, First Deputy Majority Leader.

Expressing his shock, devastation, and pain at the loss of Alhaji Mohammed Limuna, Mr Bagbin, who described him as a friend and colleague, highlighted his instrumental role in the party’s return to power and his close relationship with President John Dramani Mahama.

He emphasized his professionalism, loyalty, and dedication to his work. “Man will always propose, but God will dispose,” he said, acknowledging the sovereignty of God and the uncertainty of life.

Speaker Bagbin also emphasised the importance of unity and support during this difficult time, calling on the nation to come together as a family, to provide comfort and assistance to the bereaved family.

“We must learn from the lessons of life and death and acknowledge the spiritual dimension of human existence,” he added.

Madam Patricia Appiagyei, the Deputy Minority Leader, also paid tribute to the late Alhaj Mohammed Limuna, highlighting Parliament’s commitment to supporting the bereaved family.

Mr Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Parliament House, remembered the late Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator for his commitment to work and his role as a unifying force.

“We are committed to supporting the family during this difficult time,” he said.

As the nation mourn the loss of eight victims who perished in the accident, leaders are urging Ghanaians to rally around the affected families and provide them with care and compassion.

Eight individuals lost their lives in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

The victims of the crash included Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister for Defence; Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation and a National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Tamale Central; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; and Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC.

The rest were Mr Samuel Aboagye, former NDC parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, pilot; Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, co-pilot; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, crew member.

A national mourning period has been declared, with flags flying at half-mast across the country.

A flower-laying ceremony had been held as part of a series of national mourning events leading up to the state burial scheduled for August 15, 2025.

The flower-laying ceremony started on Thursday, August 07.

Meanwhile, an evening of reflections and memorials in honour of the eight victims was also held on Saturday, August 09, 2025, at the forecourt of the State House.

Families, friends, and dignitaries, led by President John Dramani Mahama, gathered at the venue to solemnly honour the memories of the departed compatriots.

The late Alhaji Mohammed Limuna and the late Murtala Mohammed were buried on Sunday, August 10, in Accra, according to Islamic practice.
