Ashanti Regional GJA Chairmanship Rerun Set for Thursday, Aug. 21

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Elections Committee said the rerun of the Ashanti Regional chairmanship election will take place on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

This followed a decision by the Elections Dispute Adjudication Committee (EDAC) after the submission of petition by stakeholders, a press release copied to the Ghana News Agency said on Friday.

“The EDAC’s ruling, delivered after a review of a petition and submissions from stakeholders, called for fresh polls to ensure fairness, transparency, and strict adherence to the Association’s electoral guidelines,” it said.

The release said voters’ register would be published within the week on the GJA website and the regional platform and made available to the candidates.

It said those who wished to vote by proxy must apply to the Chairman of the GJA Elections’ Committee, providing proof of eligibility and a valid national identification document.

Once approved, it said, applicants would have to download the proxy voting forms, complete them in triplicate and submit them to the Committee, the EC Presiding Officer and the designated proxy.

“All applications and completed forms must be submitted to the GJA Elections Committee Chairman not later than 1700 hours on Monday, August 18, 2025.”

It said the voting would be done at the Electoral Commission’s Regional Office, Kumasi, and polls would be opened at 0900 hours and close at 1500 hours.

Voters are to present their Ghana cards or passport only for identification, stating the process would be supervised by the EC with a representative of the Regional GJA.

“In line with best practice, ballots will be counted immediately after polls close and results will be declared on the spot,” the release noted

The GJA Elections’ Committee urged all eligible members in the Region to take part in the process and to uphold the values of integrity, unity and professionalism that defined the Association.
