Africa-Press – Ghana. The man of peace, wisdom, compassion, progress, and principle is no more, but his impact on everyone he met was profound.
“How do I pay my tribute to Dr. Omane Boamah without recalling a conversation, professional advice, and kind gestures that I often shared with others to express my appreciation to him before this unfortunate incident?
“I will never forget his expression of love and compassion towards me in 2011, around 2200 hours, after a Government Communication meeting (Comstrat), when he saw my daughter who had reported sick at Ofori Panin Senior High. I had driven from Accra to pick her up but planned to take her to the hospital the following day”.
Dr. Omane expressed concern about my decision and advised me to seek medical attention immediately, saying, Sickness is not something to joke with. Take your daughter to the 37 Military Hospital now.
The ConversationDr. Omane: Who is the schoolgirl in your car?
I replied: Doc, my daughter.
Dr. Omane: Why is she alone in the car this night and not in school?
I replied: She reported sick at school, so I went to pick her up, but got to Accra late.
Dr. Omane: So you sent her to the hospital?
I replied: No, I will do that tomorrow.
Dr. Omane: You think sickness is something to joke with deciding when to seek medical attention? Eeee, Opare!
I replied: No.
Dr. Omane: Take her to the hospital this night.
I replied: Okay, Doc.
He quickly placed a call and asked me to take her to the 37 Military Hospital to see a medical doctor.
I obliged, thanked him, and moved toward my car.
He called me back and gave me enough money, and followed up with regular phone calls throughout the night until we left the 37 Military Hospital at 0100 hours
