Africa-Press – Ghana. Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, Director General of Prisons has paid a working visit to the newly established Prison Officers Training School at Fumso in the Ashanti Region.
The visit focused on assessing the facility’s readiness and improving the welfare of officers and trainees.
Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie, who was accompanied by the Acting Commandant, Deputy Director of Prisons Justice Essumang, inspected key areas including dormitories, washrooms, the infirmary, kitchen, and officers’ accommodation.
She identified areas requiring improvement to ensure a conducive environment for training.
With 800 Prison Support Assistants currently undergoing training, the school is active with daily drills, physical exercises, and classroom tutorials.
Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie encouraged trainees to take their training seriously and excel in their examinations, emphasising the importance of their future roles in the prison service.
In a separate interaction with officers, she commended their dedication and assured them of her support in making their stay comfortable.
She paid a courtesy call to the Chief of Fumso, Nana Twumasi Ankrah, and expressed appreciation for the community’s support, describing it as vital to the school’s operations.
The Ghana Prisons Service is focused on building a well-equipped and efficient system with emphasis on training and community engagement.
The Director General is prioritising officer and trainee welfare to enhance the effectiveness of prison administration in Ghana.
